BrazilFoundation is proud to announce that Selena Gomez will be virtually honored with the Philanthropy Leadership Award at the XXI New York Gala, which will take place on September 19, 2024, at the iconic Plaza Hotel in New York. Approximately 400 guests representing the business, philanthropic, media, and diplomatic sectors are expected to attend.
At the event, BrazilFoundation will honor prominent individuals and organizations, including singer, actress, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Selena Gomez, who will be recognized virtually for her leadership in addressing the global mental health crisis. She is being honored for her courage in sharing her personal story and for founding the Rare Impact Fund, an initiative aimed at expanding access to mental health services and education.
“BrazilFoundation is the leading philanthropic vehicle between Brazil and the U.S., and our annual fundraising gala is an opportunity to highlight the solidarity within our community,” said Rebecca Tavares, President and CEO of BrazilFoundation. “We are thrilled to present the Philanthropy Leadership Award to Selena Gomez for her efforts in addressing the mental health crisis through the Rare Impact Fund. Her message aligns perfectly with our goal of developing new ways to support more mental health organizations throughout Brazil. We are very grateful for her partnership.”
The gala will be a night of inspiration and solidarity, with Ludmilla, the most prominent Black artist in Latin America, performing a live pocket show featuring Brazilian music classics. The program will be hosted by our ambassador and actress Flávia Alessandra and by Ingrid Silva, principal ballerina of the Dance Theatre of Harlem. The event aims to raise funds to support civil society organizations working on BrazilFoundation's priority investment areas through its four funds: environment and climate change, education, gender equity, and Black entrepreneurship.
