Launched in 2006, the Cartier Women's Initiative seeks to drive change by empowering women entrepreneurs with socially or environmentally impactful businesses. The program provides financial, social, and human capital support for first, second, and third place winners. Since its implementation, the CWI has supported 298 women from 63 countries, awarding $7,440,000 in grants to invest in their businesses.
This year's edition has the theme "Forces for Good" and will shed light on the range of actors coming together to address global injustices, the climate crisis, and build better systems for the planet and society. In the CWI 2023, 33 finalists will be selected from the following award categories:
9 Regional Awards: Latin America and the Caribbean, North America, Europe, Anglophone and Lusophone Africa, Middle East and North Africa, East Asia, South Asia and Central Asia, Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa, and Oceania.
2 Thematic Awards: Pioneer Award in Science and Technology and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award.
Among the categories, three new ones stand out. In the regional awards, Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa and Oceania will be included starting from this edition. In the thematic awards, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion category will also be part of the program. Unlike the others, this last one is open to all genders.
The first, second, and third place winners will be announced at the Cartier Women's Initiative award ceremony on May 10th in Paris. The first place winner will receive US$100,000, while the second and third place winners will receive US$60,000 and US$30,000, respectively.
33 finalists have been selected, representing the top 3 businesses in each of the 11 categories. "Women have always played a prominent role in Cartier's history, actively supporting female entrepreneurs for over 16 years. We are excited to further expand the recognition of these change agents around the world with our two new regional awards and the new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion category," said Cyrille Vigneron, President and CEO of Cartier International.
