Check out the exclusive interview with the singer:
1. Your new mixtape, ‘I AM THE CLUB,’ has already gained incredible momentum since its release. What inspired the concept behind this project, and how did you approach blending recession pop with your own modern twist?
Thanks! I’m honestly so happy that this project has connected with people who truly love it—there’s no better feeling as an artist. The concept behind 'I AM THE CLUB' was inspired by the music I grew up with. I was obsessed with pop stars and found a lot of escapism in recession pop back then. I wanted to revive that same feeling with this mixtape, but with my own touch. ‘I AM THE CLUB’ represents a lot for me—it’s about not giving up, standing up for yourself, and just letting loose and having fun. It’s a little window into the dream world I created for myself when I needed to escape, and I hope it brings that same sense of happiness to others. More than anything, I want it to remind people that they ARE that bitch and they CAN do anything they set their minds to, no matter what.
2. ‘CRYING ON THE DANCEFLOOR’ has resonated deeply with fans. Can you tell us the story behind this track and what message you hope it conveys to listeners?
For sure. It’s funny because this track actually started with a completely different meaning and concept. It was originally called ‘CRYING IN TORONTO’ and was about the rejection I was facing from the music industry last year. But then I re-wrote the lyrics with my friend Tilsen to make it more about self-belief and never giving up, because that’s how I truly feel. No matter what life or the music industry throws at me, I know I’ll keep doing my thing. There’s even a little sound clip of me as a 2-year-old at the end singing then saying ‘one more time,’ as a reminder that I’ll keep trying over and over until something works! It’s still quite emotional vibes really, gets me every time when I hear baby me singing bc I’m like damn…. i’m doing this for her… you know? I really hope this song inspires people to never give up on their dreams and always keep believing in themselves.
3. Your fanbase, the ‘Super Novas,’ is growing rapidly. How does it feel to have such a passionate following, and how do your fans inspire your music and performances?
It feels unreal. Their excitement just makes me want to work even harder and make my music & branding even sicker. It’s honestly great knowing that there’s people eagerly waiting to hear my new tunes. Their energy really inspires me to keep levelling up, and I know they’re going to love the new stuff I’m working on right now!
4. Selling out your headline show ‘CLUB NOVA’ at 229 was a huge milestone! How was the experience of performing live in front of such an enthusiastic crowd, and how do you prepare for a performance like that?
It was mental. It’s such growth since my last headline show in 2022 where it was mainly family and friends who came! Lol. This time, people were literally queuing up 5 hours before to make sure they got front row, and some even traveled from really far, like all the way from Belgium and Scotland, just to see me play! I’ve never had that before and it was the sickest feeling ever. Made me sososo happy when the crowd sung my songs back to me too. I felt so lucky to have such a supportive fanbase who gave me AND my support acts the best energy. It’s a night I’ll never forget.
5. You mentioned that you’re halfway through creating your new project. Can you give us any hints about what fans can expect? Will it carry a similar energy to your mixtape, or can we expect new surprises?
Expect the most iconic vibes you’ve ever heard. Definitely some new surprises in the mix.
6. With your unique blend of rap and euphoric vocals, you’ve carved out a distinctive sound. Who or what are some of your biggest influences, and how do they shape your music?
I learnt to riff from queen Christina Aguilera so she was a big influence to me vocally when I was a kid. Same with Whitney Houston. Over the last few years I’ve been really inspired by Lady Gaga, Kesha, Rihanna, Cobrah, Will.i.am and more. I really feel like I’ve found my own sound now so my producer and I just catch the vibes from whatever is inspiring us at the time, whether it’s visually or sonically, and do our own thing!
