Last Saturday (23), fashion designer and visual artist Zaia Angelo hosted the highly anticipated Disfóricas fashion show at the National Museum in Brasília. Known for her work blending fashion and resistance, Zaia unveiled a stunning and deeply meaningful collection, showcased exclusively by trans women and travestis. The event reinforced her message of inclusion, identity, and boldness within the Brazilian fashion scene.

“Seeing my designs come to life and take form on the runway, worn by strong and inspiring women, made all the effort of these past months worthwhile,” celebrated Zaia. The designer highlighted the audience's positive reception: “The response was much better than I expected, and I’m glad to see there’s room in fashion to discuss the challenges faced by trans bodies in society.”

The collection presented at Disfóricas merges technology and identity, exploring the dysphoria experienced by trans people. Inspired by the distortions created by artificial intelligence when attempting to represent humans, Zaia translated this concept into masks, oversized necklaces, and dresses with irregular silhouettes. Despite the profound theme, the collection was vibrant and colorful, featuring elements reminiscent of camp style.

“This collection is immensely important for building the solid career in fashion that I aim for and dream of,” Zaia shared, moved by the impact of her work.

With a resume that includes collaborations with artists like Anitta, Liniker, and Marina Sena, as well as nationally recognized awards, Zaia once again used fashion as a tool for resistance and visibility. Beyond celebrating diversity, the show delivered a powerful message about the challenges faced by trans bodies in society, underscoring the importance of creating spaces that embrace and amplify these narratives.

The event marked a milestone not only for Zaia Angelo but also for Brazilian fashion, demonstrating how creativity and activism can walk hand in hand.
